July - OLW blog hop

8.01.2011

{Welcome, again...time for another blog hop and keeping one another accountable to our word for the year.
If you are following today's hop, you may have found me by way of Cheri's blog. If you would like to start from the beginning, start here at Margie's. }

Prompt:: 9 songs that may or may not connect to your OLW. Emphasis on what is congruent with you right now.

I do have music going most of the day. It is said that music is God's drug. I need it intravenously.
However, I listen to music completely different than I did from even two years ago. The radio for the sake of music is never utilized by me. Rarely do I listen by way of cd, and that usually only in the car. My preferred method would be pandora, itunes, my ipod, or a favorite blog with a fabulous playlist.

This year's olw: pray: began with a song. It's called Day by Day and was recorded back in the 90's by a band called DC Talk. This particular song has held strong sway in my life for a long time.
Part of the lyrics say "I live a simple life". And with that, I kept this prompt simple by sticking to just one song, as opposed to the suggested nine. It's just how it worked for me.
As you can see, I made 3 mini canvases, inserted with some type font and words from my song. I also typed the song out and cut that sheet up into six additional canvases and simply inked the edges.

The 5x5 inserts follow Ali's prompt above with a transparency. Then I printed the album cover out very subtly on transparency film, and behind it placed more of the lyrics that were printed on cardstock.

This prompt could have gone so many ways. For more insight into how others followed the July OLW, follow this link to Jill's site to continue this month's blog hop. and thank you so much for visiting today!

  1. I'm not at all familiar with DC Talk's version, but I do remember "Day By Day" from the 70's musical "Godspell" (now just the chorus of your version). I loved the Godspell version of this song and really can relate to at least that much of it! Also really like that you simply showcased a single song that was really speaking to you.

  2. Oh, I LOVE how you did your cards! Great song choice, too. I wish I'd thought of it for my word - focus. Pray. Excellent word choice. I think I'm going to start a list of potential words for next year and this one would be a good one to start with! Blessings on your journey... :)
