3 Ideas for a Festive Creative Tag | July 4 Invitation

stamping all the festiveness

Stamps have become everything lately. I credit my friend, Heidi Swapp, to bringing stamp art to a whole new level. I for one am indebted to her for all the inspiration of late.

Taking those stampy ideas, I took to a large white tag and created this invitation for July 4.

Ok...so I will not be making dozens of these to pass out. But the event still needed a bit of something something and a large invitation tag was it!

Plus...stamp therapy anyone?

Gathering a few things I played around a little bit with some ideas. It's important to grab some scraps of paper and get ideas in ink on the surface, before committing to a final idea. And here is a thought to further that idea: just grab stamps and ink and play. Do not have a real hard fast agenda to the creative sesh. Almost always ideas will come to the surface and a concept for another project will be realized. But we have to be willing to play and make mistakes.

Ok...stepping off my soap box now...but I am sure you will hear me saying that again.

For the most part the idea behind this invitation was to keep the format clean and linear. And while I do love the white background, pattern paper or even Distress Stock would have been a wonderful choice too. And you can chalk that down to another idea as well: give other backgrounds a chance to play. Try not to limit yourself thinking a tag has to be white. Listen to me encouraging the color and patterns here. Ha!

And can we talk about something else for a minute?

Just because we are stamping on a surface, let's invite some dimension and texture while we are at. Of course, stamping on a background in and of itself creates interest to any project. But...BUT...here I reached for my fav Festive Alphas and Numbers. Die cutting those with the Switch Machine I then had some elements to pop up on the page. Using 1/8 Inch Foam Adhesive Strips the alphas were then 'popped' up. This not only gave the tag an additional element of interest, but the color I chose, that darker blue, also gave the tag a bit of grounding. So. That's another idea for you.

And there you have. You can watch the REEL to see how this actually came together. But today's article was more about ideas to add to any tag. Not just an invitation.

I hope these three ideas for a fest creative session serve you in your making. Let's sum them up:

1. take time to stamp and experiment with no real agenda

2. look at different pattern papers and colored backgrounds

3. find elements to 'pop up' on a tag to create further interest.

Hope you will try those on your next tag or card front idea.
