for the love of rub-ons

We got 'em. We love 'em. We hoard 'em. Rub on transfers. Rub ons are just one of those supplies that are so beautiful. Almost magical even. They go right where we want them to. They transform any surface with very little effort. They add layers without bulk. Texture with zero weight. And customized charm as we can be so very creative with their placement.

In my latest YouTube video I am sharing three ways with these favorite elements. So let's gather our stash. Let's not keep them precious. And let's enjoy the simple paper arts beauty that is rub on transfers.

Create backgrounds. Layering rubs to a base of layers creates such depth of feel. In the video I share faded text application. As well as blending and layering floral/botanicals to create a unique background. This adds such interest to whatever surface you are creating on. This just so happens to be a scrapbook page. But watch as you will discover that these techniques work on any surface any time.

Also, watch as I split a design to utilize part of the rub on on one portion of the page. Then use the rest of it to add detail on another portion of the background.

Sentiment focus. Large rub ons can create fantastic title work. In this video I share a bit of a smaller rub on but how I used it to create the theme for the page.

This makes for a sort of high end finish to a page when a title is a rub on transfer.

Depending on the texture of the surface in which applying the transfer to...be sure and apply firm and even pressure to the entire rub on for a complete transfer.

Floating embellishments. Ah...this one is my favorite. By now you may have discovered how I have used this technique on vellum. In this video I will be utilizing this idea on acetate with a butterfly rub on. LOVE IT!!! So easy. Beautiful results. Dare you to try this idea just once. You will be coming back for more and more.

More reasons to love rub ons:

Because they are a maker's joy. They invite and encourage an intentional approach to our making. You can't really just speed through rub on transfer technqiues. While super easy to apply, this type making is for pondering and considering where you want your stash to reside on a surface. Then to apply with care so that your pages can look outstanding too.

So whether you are using transfers for background layering, sentiment focus, or floating embellishments, these are beautiful reminders that the joy is in the details.
