 getting back to basics

Seems like a minute since I have put an everyday photo to pretty paper and journaled a story.

Recently I got my hands on these new Simple Scrapbooks Cards from ScrapbookCom. And of all the ones I was really inspired to play with was the set called Little One. I don't even have little ones anymore. But no matter. They were just so lovely.

I was very much taken in by the boho sort of color scheme. While the card set is 'supposed' to be for baby, I found plenty of cards in this set to use for one of my big babies. Let me show you a couple of ways I returned to some simple scrapbooking with these Simple Scrapbooks Cards.

The card set includes 3x4 as well as 6x4-inch cards. Ideally they are meant for pocket scrapbooking. While I do implement some pocket scrapbooking into my story telling routine, it's not my first and foremost approach to telling these stories. However, I found these cards very useful as photo mats, background papers, as well as embellishment clusters.

This 6x4 card with the white dot (shown above) made for a great foundation to this 6x8-inch scrapbook page. I trimmed it down just a bit so there was some border of the background cardstock showing. The card base made for a great way to build some layers to make this page. I just treated it like any other layer technique one would find on my scrapbook pages. Die cuts and ephemera and word stickers were added in to make this unique as well as pretty. But of course.

I used the graphic on one of the 3x4 cards (heart shown above) to play up just a bit of embellishment. I used a felt heart found in my stash. Layered atop that were some word stickers from the ScrapbookCom Black and White and Gold Word Stickers. I'm a huge fan of those phrase stickers. Using hot glue I just popped them on the heart so as to appear that they float.

There are also Journaling Cards new to the shop at ScrapbookCom. You know I am always adding 'the story' to my pages, and so to a journal card I went. I used a circle die to create a circle journaling card. I didn't really have room for the full 3x4-inch card. Plus I liked the juxtaposition of a circle against all the edges on this page. It's just one way to stretch your stash of goods.

I hope this has inspired you to grab the new Simple Scrapbooks Cards and put them to work telling your stories. Bonus if you like to add in pocket pages to your mix of albums. There are plenty of cards in these packs to share your story handmade by you.
