 new distress mica stain

I get so excited when new stuff comes around.

It's like Christmas...oh wait! This for SURE is like Christmas.

Brand new Tim Holtz Christmas Distress Mica Stain is in the house. Not only that. There is a lovely tutorial and make on the YouTube Channel today.

Sometimes these stains can be a little mysterious. I do not in any way shape or form pretend to be an expert on the subject. Tim Holtz has a myriad of video out there at expert level. But, I do think it's good to stay open to new to us ideas and techniques. And that is just what I am hoping to share with you all.

I want to thank Scrapbook.Com for sending me this box of treats. It was fun and inspiring to go through the new Christmas Mica Stain colors and get to know them.

There is also new sets of Christmas Distress Pearl Crayons. That will be for another video and make. Perhaps closer to Christmas.

Then there is also new Grit Paste Snowfall. I'm now afraid I may have been calling this 'Snowflake' all along. What do you know? One should really read the package. Anyhow...you will be seeing that medium used a lot. I mean, heck. It's almost the middle of October here. It could snow any minute at this point.

So these new Mica Stains are gorgeous. They have, well, mica in them. This creates a gorgeous shimmer and sheen. It's subtle (which I think is my middle name if we were to be honest here), but that makes for gorgeous colors.

As seen in this above image I am using (also new) Light Gray Woodgrain Cardstock. And in hindsight, maybe one was not 'supposed' to color it...but I did. You can see that in the video. And I liked it. But just like Tim is known to say: You do you!. And that's what I did. And I encourage the same for you too.

I also pulled out new Peppermint Forest and Peppermint Winter Stencils, which are exclusive to ScrapbookCom. I share in detail how to use the Forest layering stencil. That too was an exercise in doing it the 'wrong' way. See how it is that creativity takes courage. Ya gotta be willing to just try the things. Cause something will be discovered, which is not in actuality really wrong. You'll see what I mean in the video.

This tag was influenced by Shiny Bauble and Winter Frost plus the Peppermint Winter Stencil. Now this was a fun little discovery too. The Texture Paste came to play and we had fun with that. Well. I did anyway. And a sort of two-fer came out of making this background.

As a side note, I just want to share this idea with you:

I'm a very seasonal maker. It's probably why I am not a designer, as I tend to stay very linear to the season I am in right now. So, Christmas in July is a hard one for me. Christmas in October is not at all even a 'normal' thing I do. But here's what I have discovered, here's what I am learning:

working on some content already for Christmas has:

1. made me really excited for Christmas

2. given me all kinds of ideas already for my vision of my family's Christmas

3. created a few, what I call, 'pre-makes' for my December Album. And that is probably the most exciting thing of all.

So...I will be returning to our regularly scheduled program of October and fall and autumn. Trust me. I am all for living in the moment. But some holiday pre-prep has been fantastic too.

I would love to know your thoughts on that subject. Thank you so much for reading this article today. I hope you have found some inspiration for you and your creating space.
