Rule of 4 | Magicals Edition | JamiePate

it never gets old

The joy of transforming paper by way of color. Then layers. And always sentiment, never gets old. Never. Gets. Old. And here again :: Taking time. Practicing where the ideas lead, has brought another edition of what is being called Rule of 4.

Rule of 4 | Magicals Edition | JamiePate

Rule of 4 was brought to you late in March here on the blog. From one paper came four canvases. I then turned that body of work into accordion books that I then gave away as thank you notes.

This all was sparked by the idea of volume. Creating volume with our work. Which naturally is taking time and applying practice on the paper that then hones our creative skill.

"It all starts with the volume of your work. Repetition is the mother of skill."

This from Chase Jarvis's book Creative Calling. That creative calling has indeed been calling. Been calling me to create more volume with my creativity. To hone the skill of making.

It has been calling me to encourage you, my dear creative friend, to create more volume with your work. To not take time, but to make time in the routine of your day to be intentionally creative. And it's not even that the 'volume of work' needs to produce something. This is not about productivity. This is about slowing down. This is about making something on the page. This is about learning and taking the next step forward in your making and what it is you love to do creatively.

There is a video on the channel that delves into this idea yet again :: Rule of 4 | Magicals Edition

Having received some Katie Pertiet's Magicals from Katie I have invited those little pots of pigment amazingness to now live on my creative table. You have to see a thing to work on a thing. So they are sitting pretty and easily available to be dabbled in. I invite you to do the same. Dabble, my friends. Dilly dally at your creative space and have fun. Discover. Play. Explore. Start a sketch book with all your noticing. (Sketchbook...a topic for another post).

Now. I am no Lindys' Magicals expert. There is so much I think one can learn from these pots of pigment. It was not about being expert. It was about watching for what just might happen on the paper. Where the color would go. What it would do. How it would look. Curiosity inspires volume.

So won't you join me in that video. While we explore the Magicals in a Rule of 4 fashion, we also layer up those colorful backgrounds just to see where that takes us too.

See you on the channel.
