Three Ways With Card Crafting | The Art of the Card

Once upon a time I was a card writer and giver.

Then I was a card maker.

To say that card creativity is still at the heart of my making may be a truism.

We, and by we I mean us GenXers, remember what it is to be a pen pal. Not to say that you are not one presently. If you are I applaud you greatly. I think that is fantastic. It's a habit I am slowly moving towards getting back into myself. There is nothing like receiving a note in the mail that someone took the time to possibly make, write, buy the postage, and then send.

As a collaborator with ScrapbookCom I have been involved with sending cards to their Creative Kindness initiative. It's a lovely gesture.A meaningful way to bring a smile to someone in need. In the meantime, this week I took to creating out of inspiration. Inspiration from new making goodness. As Austin Kleon shares Time + Space + Materials = Play. We need the physical supplies readily available in our space to fuel creative play.

So that's what I did.

I took three card dies - I know! I don't usually ACTUALLY make cards with card dies - and made three different cards (just to get started) as inspired by the stuff as well as the want for cards to send in want of letting someone know they are in my thoughts.

And not only that, I am sharing the start to finish for each of these cards. The ideas just kept coming as I was making. That's the thing when we take the time and space and materials to play. More ideas will come. There is motivation in movement. Moving paper and dies and elements and sentiment around on your work SPACE is magical. The ideas are there. Tugging at our creativity to make even more.
