A Book of Collected Things | Let's Begin

One of the ways to go about a new range of papers and patterns is to craft a book that allows one to go through the process of selection and really seeing each of the papers and how they stand alone and how they complement each other. That is a process I do enjoy going through as an assortment of patterns and prints are before me again on the studio table.

An accordion book is a sort of easy way to do just that. The making of the book does not require a lot of paper. It does, however, require thought and planning. OH!...and being willing to cut the paper up. I know...that's the hard part.

And then, the thing with an accordion book, is that several pages have been created and at the ready for...what? Well? Sometimes we do not know completely the plan for a project. And sometimes that is the best way to get started.

This is what I am doing here in the community for September.

I'm starting with an accordion book - and with that an accordion book with a twist : a pocketed accordion book with a surprise at the end.

Here's what I really want to invite us all into: it's not just a book with a few finishing touches and then we are calling it done. Nope. This time let's spend a few weeks adding to it. Thinking about how to bring our own creativity to each page. Embellishing one creative idea at a time.

With that we will start with THE BOOK.

I have some interactive elements in mind to share to add to the pages in further videos.

Oh...and something is igniting in my mind that I keep calling 'magical leaves'. Can't wait to explore that one myself.

And of course, artful pages. Always with the artful pages.

Oh-kay then - to start - this week's tutorial is where it all begins. And it will slowly grow from there.

A handmade accordion book, oh wait...a pocketed accordion book. This is the place where everything else will be collected.

I am using a new collection from Arden Creative Studio as my inspiration. But as always all stash is invited to this creative endeavor we will be traveling through all month long.

Let me encourage you, look at the papers and supplies you already love. Be always asking the question: what else could this become?
