taking inventory

Do you ever take inventory?

I know it is April 2020.
I know we are in the middle of the corona emergency situation.
I know it’s harry for some of us with kids home now until the fall.
I know we are worried about our friends and family and loved ones.
Plans are hard to make for even next week.
And all sorts of previous plans now lay to the way-side.

I know there are a lot of voices out there right now. And when I say a lot I do mean A LOT of voices out there.
Everything from ‘show up. live your best life. be all you can be’.
To ‘just slow down. be still. take advantage of the time just to unplug.’

Which is the right way to approach this ‘new normal’? That is for you to decide with your own life.
But here is an additional idea you may want to consider.

A personal inventory.

I love books. I read. A lot. One of the books I have mentioned here before is a book from Rebekah Lyons called Rhythms of Renewal.

If you are looking for a gift idea for a mom or friend I highly suggest. Oooh…which reminds me…need to put in my cart for my mom for Mother’s Day…

Anyway…
in her book is a chapter titled Take Inventory. Reflect & Journal. With the great reminder by Socrates:

The unexamined life is not worth living.

Here is my response to that chapter:

Using a Storyline Chapters Journaler, I took a page and did some reflecting and journaling and took inventory of my life right now.

I wanted this to be more than just a journal entry in my monthly journal I keep and write in everyday. I wanted this inventory to have place. To be readily available for me to refer to often. To have a home in a Journaler Insert and then in an album.

It did not need much decoration in The Journaler. It mostly needed me. My words and thoughts and insights. Now. Don’t you get me wrong. It did need embellishing. My theory on that is the words will always be there available for you to read in future days. But the pretty things on the page is what draws you back in.
Every time.
Am I right?

So here’s the thing…
First, I recommend the book. It’s been a wonderful resource to me this year.

Secondly, I recommend using the Journaler and taking inventory of your life. Especially right now. You may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
