 variations on a card

Having made cards for so many years now, I can't help but look at a card base and think what can I do different and unique? After all, spending time to make a card has so many possibilities. One can assembly line cards and make many at one time. I love that way. Or one can make their cards pared down, special, but very simple. Or one can just change all the things up one card at a time and enjoy the process of making.

The last is what today's card is. Just playing with ideas and seeing if they work out.

I am using the Neenah Solar White Slimline Cards from ScrapbookCom. Everywhere I look right now makers are crafting cards from slimline size cards. These cards measure 3.5 x 8.5 inches as a base. They also come with envelopes. So. Grabbing one of these cards I went to make something new. I'm all about the making of the new.

As you'll see in the video, I trimmed the card about a 1/3 down from the top. Then I created a pocket using Simple Stories Pattern Paper. The pocket was sewn into place.

To the top of the card I left that to still be able to open like a traditional card. But it is layered with white cardstock that has Minc Texture Paste stenciled and then foiled. I little thumb size half circle was chomped out of the side of that opening.

A tag was die cut out of Bazzill Cardstock. Then banners and Tim Holtz Christmas Snippets were tied on making it all so very merry and bright.

Note: The Tim Holtz Christmas Snippets are no longer available. I have substituted an option in the supplies below.

I have to make a shout out to the Magic Mat and my favorite Sizzix Big Shot. Always on my work surface and always at the ready to die cut tags and banners and all the little details that go into making a card just that much more special.

Tis the season for cards, that's for sure. Frankly, I believe any season is a season for cards. What a great opportunity to get creative and make something different and new from a plain o' card base.

Hope this inspires you to make cards, send cards, and enjoy the process.
