One Paper. Four Backgrounds.

This is not a new concept.

In fact there is a video tutorial that covers this idea for the most part.

Watch that HERE.

Very often we make one background. And then stop. Finish that project up. Then we start all over again.

But what if we took that single background effort and carried it out to four finished pieces.

Here's the set up: a large mixed media background. My preference is the Mixed Media Paper found HERE. Using a 12x12 piece I cut a portion to be 5 inches tall.

Next, using 1/4 Tape I divided the 12 x 5 Mixed Media Paper to be four grids. All one paper, but divided in such a way that four times I could create similar backgrounds with subtle differences. Oh! The best!!!

Treating each section as it's own canvas. But repeating the process. No huge expectation. The thought was play. Just play. This is not a science. It's art. Creativity. Ink pigment and water on paper.

The medium of choice is a new to the studio ink pigment. Lindy's Shimmer Shakers. Pearlized mica powders contained in these powdered dyes is indeed magical. Katie Pertiet's Field Notes edition to be precise. Coming soon to the SBC.

Taking creative sessions to acquaint myself with this medium. Quickly becoming a fan. And it was the first layer on the mini canvases.

In addition to three choices of the Lindy's as the base layer on these papers, I also added graphic pencil doodles. Black paint doodles. Paint splatters. Stamped clusters of words. And a Laser Cut Butterfly

Oh. For. Joy!

The 3x5 panels were included in a mini accordion that was 4 panels long. One of the pages was a blank paper so that I could make thank you cards with each of these same but different designs.

Here's the creative challenge: next time you are making a background, make it four.

ENJOY!
