This week we took a day trip up to near Boulder to visit the Butterfly Pavilion.
My middle daughter. My granddaughter. Myself. It was a belated birthday outing for my middlest. And she wanted to invite her niece along who was more than delighted by the idea to go see butterflies.
As I was photographing moments of those two exploring the pavilion. As I was photographing butterflies up close and personal. As I was watching so many butterflies actively flitting about and delighting us every moment, I was struck, again, by story. And beauty.
And why? Why was I struck by story? Emotion. This experience was creating thought which elicited emotion. Delight. Joy. Gladness. If discovery is an emotion, that too.
Story is not just fact. Story is feeling too.
The feeling was that I needed to make a mini album to not only hold some photos from the day. But also to hold my emotion. My telling. My delight.
That's what we storytellers do. And our creativity is an outpouring of the emotion we feel when we encounter something beautiful. When our hearts fill with wonder and felicity. It wants to go somewhere. So we, and by we I mean us paper artists, take paper and ephemera, tools of the trade, and we make something.
Then that something gets to hold the evidence of a life beautifully lived.
Oh for joy! I love that.
This folio mini is a response to what I just wrote above.
And I would like to invite you to come with me as we make this mini album. As we add story and photo. And then as we create embellished clusters and papery assemblage that is a relaying of the inspired delight we feel.
I want to invite you to follow along as we embark on a little Making Series I am calling Folio Mini.
We start with the folio. The folio is the same dimensions of the accordion albums we have been making for months up on the channel. So all will fit either inside this tower or a basket you have repurposed from around your home.
I will show you step by step, measurement by measurement, how to make the folio that will be home to words and photos and beautiful play.
It would seem too this could make a lovely gift idea as well.
Additional videos to come this month will show how to add this that and the other thing to the Folio Mini.
