world card making day

Hello, World Card Making Day!!!

They, you know...the great committee of 'they', say, that today is the holiday card making kick off weekend. Sort of the grand start to the season of giving. Which requires we make first. Anyway, sort of seems to me that many of you all have been in the making already.

Here is a question for you?

Have you started your holiday card making yet?

Here is another question(s) straight out of today's YouTube card making session:

Do you make the same card multiple times?

Or do you stir it up?

Do you assembly line make them?

What works well for you?

Drop me a comment in the comment section as I would love to know this.

And I invite you to take just a few moments today and come and make with me.

We are taking plain white Mixed Media Paper card bases. Then 'pigmenting' the background like the little canvases that these card fronts are. Simply adding just a hit of background stamping. The cards are then finished up with a layer of clustered foliage. And finalized with a sentiment.

This VIDEO is, for the most part, done in real time, save for the drying of the backgrounds and the adding of adhesive to our die cut branches and laser cut foliage. But I show you that too.

Then, tadah! There are three card fronts at the completion of the VIDEO.

Here's the thing. The crafting of the background is simply great fun, a little addictive, and could be a new making obsession. The making is not hard. Each background slightly different. Which then creates this variation on a theme type making. Oh how I LIVE for that kind of making. It is simply grand.

Here is the break down:

  • Sprinkle color (I used Lindy's Magical in Christmas Cheer) on a glass mat
  • Do this again with a second color
  • Spritz with water and move the color around
  • Then, next, utilize what I call 'paint by dabbing' The video shows just how that works.
  • Dry background. Do more than one at a time. Talk about magical! ✨
  • Randomly stamp light ink imagery on the background
  • quick tip: add foam squares to all the foliage pieces
  • add a label as an anchor point
  • layer the laser cut and die cuts
  • finish with a sweet postage stamp and sentiment

Oh what fun it is to layer all the layers on a card, hey! Yeah...I sung that.

OK. Now it's your turn. Watch all the how-to in this video. And remember, what you can do on one size surface you can do on any size and shape surface.

Certainly hope you enjoy this idea you can add to the shelf of ideas, or just get to making now this holiday card making weekend. And don't save the idea just for the 'holiday' cards. This technique works for any theme any time of year.
