layout with ink or mist ~ shimelle

6.24.2014

recently  HeidiSwapp Media Team member, kim jeffress and myself were asked to contribute to shimelle's blog...
here's my layout and my answer to her challenge...

layout with ink or mist for shimelle.com @jamiepate

the challenge was to show how i use mist on my scrapbook layouts. oh, well that's an easy challenge...
how many can you find here?

ink or mist on a layout for shimelle.com @jamiepate

of course my go to mist is almost always and forever Color Shine. for this challenge I stuck with three colors: Coral, Blush, and a tiny touch of Navy.

ink or mist on a layout for shimelle.com @jamiepate
there are several ways mist was utilized to add color and interest to this layout...
seen here are those large beautiful hearts from the Color Magic Paper Goods. these are resist pieces that have beautiful patterns that show through once sprayed with the mist. the hearts are sprayed with Blush.
the 'love' die cut is from my collection found at the sizzix eshapestore and it's called Love&Hearts. the cut was done with white cardstock so that i could color it what i chose, which was with the Navy Color Shine. gives a great pop to this embellishment cluster.

in this photo is a peek of the vellum i used for layering. it is stenciled with Blush Color Shine and makes for this great soft addition to these silly photos. i love using vellum anyway, but with a touch of Shine it is an awesome embellishment.

o.k...a couple of things are going on here...
first, the page was stenciled with a subtle spray of Blush.
the edges of the background page were distressed and then swiped with mist.
the mini shipping tag was sprayed, again with Blush.
the string sprayed with Navy.
and lastly another die cut from this die cut collection cut in white cardstock and sprayed with a pop of Navy.

a larger shipping tag was sprayed with Coral and used as a layering piece that grounded the hearts. love those combinations of colors, textures and layers.

lots of ways to have fun with Color Shine on a layout. these are just a few. hope you are inspired and discover a few of your own.

till next time...

wood album ~ heidi swapp

3.13.2013

Good morning friends...
Have you been following along with this weeks wood challenge over at HeidiSwapp.com?

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp wood album
Do you remember when this was posted on instagram last week?

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp wood album
This week some of the Media Team from Heidi Swapp took a wood album, some specific tools and supplies, and turned their version of the Heidi Swapp Wood Album into complete works of art.

You HAVE to go see what Maggie and Lindsay did with their challenge.
both different.
both very well executed and beautiful.

Today I just wanted to show you my version:

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp wood album

This album was the star version as seen here.
The cover was sprayed with Color Shine Primrose...
Using a stencil cut from the Silhouette a layer of Color Shine Georgia Peach was added.
Before removing the stencil, a light spray of Color Shine Bronzer was used on top of it all.
Bronzer is such a rich, beautiful and diverse Color Shine.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp wood album

The stencil effect created a wonderful dimension of color.
I thought the hues played beautifully with the Sugar Chic pink leopard pattern + the floral pattern. Really liked how those two patterns played each other up.
A notched piece of the back of a photo stack was added as a third banner.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp wood album

A length of Color Magic Seam Binding was sprayed with Bronzer.
Another length used a combination of Primrose and Georgia Peach. Combining colors of Color Shine allows for yet another array of shades.
The seam binding and a disco arrow were stapled together along with a folded over Paper Banner.
Do not underestimate the subtle details of those Paper Banners. I cannot get enough for them and use them everywhere.
A dot of hot glue was used to adhere this piece to the top corner of the album.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp wood album

The new Glitz Design washi tape has a sentiment I will be using everywhere...choose happiness.
and a Sentiment Sticker completes the look.

Hope you will go take a look at what the girls did with their albums...
these are hoarding issues I am sure...
and if you have your own creation to show off, Heidi has a big contest she will be announcing soon...

now go...
create and choose happiness today.

and then come back here for detailed instructions.
it is a bit of an aggressive project...

Then I would encourage you to read through the instructions first before starting. And please let me know of any questions you may have. Would love to know if you make this project.

Spray a piece of Color Magic Paper with Tinsel and Black Velvet Color Shine. Attach to the left side of the file and trim edges. Do the same for the right side.
Place photos, heart and arrow (edged with black paint), and Black and White Letters for title in a pleasing manner on the left side. Add a notched piece trimmed from packaging.

photo stack:
This was created using the video Heidi Swapp created for My Craft Channel found here. Watch video to understand how this is bound. You will need seven binder mechanisms to create the pages shown here.

jmpgirl ~ monochromatic madness

This is the front of the book. But let's start with the last page...

Spray a piece of the Color Magic 8x8 Paper with Black Velvet Color Shine.  This page measures 5 inches wide by 8 inches long. Add paper to the binding mechanism as shown in the video. Adhere a piece of vellum that is trimmed with a border punch to the sprayed paper. Add adhesive to the center which will be covered with the photo.
Add photo with Day Glow Photo Corner.
Place an arrow sprayed with Black Velvet to the top edge allowing it to peek over the edge. Add clips, stars, tags, arrows and labels to embellish.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp monochromatic madness

Spray a piece of Color Magic Paper with Black Velvet. This page measures 4 inches wide by 8 inches long. Staple a Clear Pop Tab to the edge.
Color the edges of a Jumbo Tag. Trim out the center leaving the border. Staple this to the Color Magic paper. Add to the binding. Place photo over the binding mechanism to cover.
Add banners, stickers, labels and stamp to embellish further.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp monochromatic madness

For the next page, a file folder pocket was cut with the Silhouette. It was sized to 3 3/4 inches wide. Attach to the binder mechanism.
Add Color Pop Window Frame to the page and then a photo on top with foam tape. Embellish further with arrow, banners, and paper flowers.
Add a label to the edge and back with another label.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp monochromatic madness

For the next page adhere two Color Magic Notes back to back with the binder mechanism sandwiched in between. Add photo.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp monochromatic madness

Next page is the Clear Pop Bare Pocket. Add to the binder mechanism. Slip the photo inside to cover the binder piece. On the back of this page add a Color Magic Note and embellish further with hearts and stamp, and a clip at the top.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp monochromatic madness

The page with the kids group photo: attach photo to the front of the binder mechanism. Add a piece of pattern paper to the back to cover the rest of the binder piece. Embellish that side further with No Limits Triumph Stix, arrows and washi tape.

jmpgirl ~ heidi swapp monochromatic madness

Spray a Color Pop Window Frame with Tinsel on the front and Black Velvet on the back careful not to get the black on the front part (like i did). Attach the frame to the very front binder mechanism. Cover the back binder piece with washi tape. Staple the #GRATEFUL Clear Pop Tag to the front of the frame.

Whew...if you made it this far you are my hero.

I love this Memory File.
Please link me up if you create one of your own.

color fever

1.28.2013

Today's post involves color. Lots and lots of color.
Today I am posting over at Heidi Swapp and the theme is Color Fever.
We decided to play up Mint Green, Tropicana Teal, Chartruese, and Tinsel.

jmpgirl ~ color fever

For this assignment, I decided to keep things simple (read: just got back from CHA and lots of assignments on my desk not to mention  the priority of my family so this is what I did)...know what I mean?
But seriously, this was to keep the focus on color. And with Color Shine as the foundation of this project, I think I was successful in doing just that.

jmpgirl ~ color fever

There is a write up over at Heidi's blog. So I invite you to go there to read more about the why of this layout.

jmpgirl ~ color fever

And here I will share with you the how, of this project::

This layout starts with textured white cardstock.
A piece of Vintage Chic pattern paper was used as a secondary background. Trimmed to about 8 1/2 x 11 inches.
The layers under the 4x4 photo start on the bottom in the following order:
~doily
~a piece of the Bookkeeping Vintage Chic paper
~vellum  - reinforce with the green Day Glow Neon tape at the lower left corner
~notched piece of the dots side of Beautiful Vintage Chic
~place Color Magic Note Card sprayed in Tinsel Color Shine at upper right hand corner of papers
~tuck Vintage Chic Note Card under above Note card at the lower right corner of the papers.
~a 4 1/2 x 2 inch notched Beautiful Vintage Chic paper (the dot side) is layered next
~add pop up adhesive to the photo and place over all papers

Now for some ‘tuck in’ embellishments:
Spray white textured card stock with the Chartreuse Color Shine. Punch with a tab paper punch and tuck behind photo at the top.
Tuck a white small shipping tag and a Vintage Chic Mini Tag under the photo along the left side .
Spray three pieces of scallop Artisan Ribbon with Tinsel, Chartreuse, and Mint Green Color Shine. Layer a top one another and sew to background paper just below photo.
Add Vintage Chic Mini Tags on the Note Card and layer a Buzz Word arrow (“HAPPY DAY”) . Add the arrow with pop up adhesive.
Add BuzzWord butterflies with pop up adhesive.
Place “happiness” BuzzWord to the right of the layers. Add a hash tag from the Glitter Alpha next to the title. Place a “happiness” Definition Sticker below and add Day Glow Neon Tape.
Sew small portion of scallop Artisan Ribbon sprayed with Tinsel Color Shine to top left of layout. Add a strip of Neon Tape with a part of a Sentiment Sticker attached to the top.

When it was all placed, I added splotches of Color Shine in Tropicana Teal, Chartreuse and Tinsel. On Heidi's blog I share how I got those to splotch like they do.

Thanks for stopping in today. Hoping next time is not as much time between posts. Appreciate your comments.

day by day

1.03.2013

jmpgirl~day by day journal

I am over at HeidiSwapp.com today sharing my latest journal inspiration. Hope you will hop over and check out the details there.

jmpgirl ~ day by day journal

But here today I share the step by step for this art journal-mix media inspired book.

jmpgirl ~ day by day journal

You have to go over to Heidi's to know about the why of the book...

jmpgirl ~ day by day journal

But here I will share with you the how of the book.
Ready for a little bit of eye candy?
Here we go::

This journal starts with a Mini Memory File + Chipboard Memory File. These items are so versatile and this is not the first time I have made journals with them. Today I will share with you the details of the cover. And tomorrow I hope you will come back and see how I really personalize the inside and make this such an important go-to book in my day.

1.Cut Mini Memory File in half.
2.Cut Chipboard Memory File in half to match Mini Memory File.
3. Attach Mini Memory File to front half of cut Chipboard Memory File. Do same for back portion.
4. Cover inside of Chipboard Memory File with Vintage Chic paper in Just Dots and Beautiful Songs.

5. Trim piece of vellum to shape of front cover. I adore the pattern of the black damask Mini Memory File...but I wanted it to be a bit subtle. So all the elements are attached to the vellum.

6. Sew doily and notched Color Magic Paper top left corner.
7. Spray Black Velvet Color Shine on vellum.
8. Place rhinestone brad through middle of two Flower Trimmings. Adhere to layer on top of doily and notched banner.

9. Spray a piece of Color Magic Paper with Tinsel Color Shine. Adhere to lower right corner of vellum. Trim off extra.
10. Spray scalloped Banner Delights with Black Velvet Color Shine. Overlap the Color Magic Paper.
11. Spray scallop Artisan Ribbon in Black Velvet Color Shine. Sew on vellum overlapping the Banner Delights.

12. Insert piece of Beautiful Songs pattern paper inside Mini Instaframe. Staple to vellum.  Cut up a Sentiment Sticker and place inside Mini Instaframe.
13. Spray Chipboard Alpha to spell the word “DAY’ with Tinsel Color Shine. Attach to sit inside the Mini Instaframe.

14. Color Letterbox Alpha with Black Velvet Color Shine. Print a black Color Label from the Digital Shop. Attach Letterbox Alpha’s to label and tuck under Mini Instaframe to attach.
15. Place Buzzwords butterfly on Mini Instaframe.

16. Add an Artisan Chipboard Arrow to cover. Keep white.
17. Place "DAY" Black & White Stickers next to Chipboard Arrow.

Fill inside with filler paper. I use 65 lb presentation card stock from the office supply store.
Separate the months with manila folders trimmed to fit book size.
Punch holes on edge and use ring binders to hold.
More details tomorrow on what's inside.
