dimensional gratitude projects

There is a grounding to returning to the workspace and crafting the ideas in one's mind. After a busy season, where maybe creativity was set to the side, the renewed time spent layering papers in a seasonal fashion fills this creative heart once again.

The pages and surfaces seem to be mimicking the changing of the landscape outside. Always here for that. Truly. As a maker, I can only really craft that which is currently inspiring my thoughts. Todays' project is no different.

There are currently so many people I am indebted to for making life and events and ideas come to life of late. There is also a vacuum of handwritten cards and handcrafted gratitude actually given to one another. But that is a post for another day. The actuality, however, is explored in this post and recent VIDEO.

This week found me making with a new to the studio Nested Notched Arch Die set. I mean, come on...any surface is waiting and begging for layers in which to exploit its papery goodness. This nested die set is no exception. The image above is just another variation on a theme. I think you get the idea.

But why nested arches?

Well, for one, the curved shape adds softness as well as structure to any surface we are building on. Even this embellished envelope card. Watch the VIDEO for the ideas leading up to this project.

Then there is of course the joy of the gathering of shapes and sentiment to form the focal point of the make.

Layering distress techniques, ink, stamps and twine on said arch shape makes for a card that feels meaningful and intentional.

This type of making also has us thinking through how to actually give dimension to the layers and causes us to purposefully choose the right type of adhesive to create just the look we are going for. Again, I refer you to the VIDEO to see how that came together well.

For this project, using the inked background, the warm tones found in the paper choices, as well as the shapes that exude fall brings with it of course a quintessential seasonal vibe. Change up the ink colors, the paper, even the die shapes, and you have a whole entirely different artfulness on the surface.

Love this I read recently: "artful pages and surfaces like these remind us that gratitude and creativity are not separate - they grow from the same place of appreciation and play". Yes. Yes and cheers to that!

Hope this finds you seeped in the seasonal making. The digging deep in your own creativeness to craft that which is inspiring you right now.
