2016 planner ~ heidi swapp

Brand new 2016 Heidi Swapp Memory Planner | @jamiepate for @heidiswapp

I was a planner girl way, way back in the day before planners were cool. And the love has only been re-fueled. This is the third year of the Memory Planner as designed by Heidi Swapp...and it is just, as the name implies...Hello Gorgeous!!!

one little word ~ jan

2.02.2015

So here we are and it's February.
Was that not the fastest January to pass through our fingers ever?

With that in mind there are a few things I am thankful for.
first off Heidi Swapp's Capture 30. That was the best way to start off this year with daily prompts intended to inspire intention. And for me that is just what it did. I am deeply grateful to Heidi for all the work and love and time she shared with that class and how it will impact the rest of my year by way of #onelittlethingeveryday as well as the Memory Planner that will walk with me daily and be a documented reminder of the blur.

I am thankful next for Ali Edward's class One Little Word.
I have taken this class for several years now. I have always started strong and then fizzled at the end. Just when I should be paying more attention TO my word and seeing it through the very end. Sometimes you just get tired of a word. Not last year, SEEK was the best intention I could have come up with. Probably the most powerful of all my olw's.

Sharing the beginning of this year's prompts from Ali's class:

One Little Word ~ January @jamiepate

To start is sort of a follow-through with Ali's process. I kept going back and forth with whether I wanted to do a smaller album this year or not. But in the spirit of keeping things simple right now, I went ahead and opted to add this new word to an existing album and keep with the same size format.

One Little Word ~ January @jamiepate

Following the prompts from the class, cards were filled out to guide us through the beginning introduction to our word and help us to get acquainted. I delayed on purpose to work through these january prompts as I really wanted to think on my own terms about this word and what I was goaling for with it this year.

One Little Word ~ January @jamiepate
Not only is this a great mental exercise, the creativity aspect is always a plus. It slows one down a bit to think through as hands are busy putting the parts together in a please and aesthetic manner. This is always the part of the process about creativity that I love the most. The thinking that comes through with the creativity.

One Little Word ~ January @jamiepate
So what is going on here creatively:
Yet another form of pocket scrapbooking. The visual basis for this first month was lots of gold, black and touches of mintish-blue.  A photograph of me, taken by Maggie Massey, is part of the prompt. Me right now to trigger what is going on with the right now. Another photo that for me sort of depicts a bit about my word. Lots of gold paint on the card prompts. A confetti pocket with sequins, a foiled butterfly as well as extra little punches. Of course there is my word that I created digitally that is my mantra for the year. And then lastly a card I painted with gold metallic paint and added butterflies, one of my favorite icons, and a great example of fly.

So welcome to a new year. A new month. A new word.
If you have not followed this process before, I invite you to do just that. There are aspects to be discovered about you that can be found in this creative, emotional and mental process.

Here is to a beautiful Monday.

let's fly

1.07.2015

Let's Fly | @jamiepate for @jotmagazine @kimarcher

So excited and happy to share my first project for JotMagazine. Kim posted a Mood Board earlier in the month and it was a great challenge to play along.

Go here to see the rest of the entries and give it a try yourself!

Let's Fly | @jamiepate for @jotmagazine @kimarcher
For this page I picked up the pinks and yellows and charcoal from the mood board image. Pink Paislee Bella Rouge is mostly used to make this page. One of my methods for creating is to hone in on specific colors. Keep the page congruent with specific hues and enjoy that as a creative process. There was such a celebratory feel to the mood board and so sequins were a must have for this page too.

Let's Fly | @jamiepate for @jotmagazine @kimarcher

The reason for the page was to introduce my #olw (one little word) for the year: FLY.
I created a cut file and colored with black water color surrounded by splatters for Gold Color Shine. I love the simplicity of the page yet how that word really takes center stage for me.

Let's Fly | @jamiepate for @jotmagazine @kimarcher
Words always find their way on my pages. Just about almost always. These word strips from Heidi's collection at Hobby Lobby could never be a hoarding issue for me. I love them all and will use up every bit. Using words to emphasize creativity is huge for me.

Let's Fly | @jamiepate for @jotmagazine @kimarcher
A closer look at the sequin and vellum pocket. Just fun and perfect for a celebration type project.

Let's Fly | @jamiepate for @jotmagazine @kimarcher
So allow me to sum up a couple of things here...
firstly: go visit Jot and check out what many of the rest of the 2015 Jot Girls created for the mood board.
secondly: do you pick a word for your year? if you never have, I challenge you to do so. And then to join Ali Edward's year long class to keep you connected to your word. I promise you will not be disappointed.

o.k...for now...stay warm!

seek

1.07.2014

one little word 2014 ~ jamie pate
Seek encompasses so many things. But what I am really seeking here is connection. Connecting to this word this year in a daily way. My first list of things to do:: Seek daily.
For me that is a spiritual seek. To start the day quiet. Meditate. Read scripture. Pray. That is the most important seeking I can do.

one little word 2014 ~ jamie pate
But as a mentor of mine once said, "one has to always be re-creating themselves for a new success". (Note to self, quotes from a mentor would make a really great mini album.) So for me, the morning activity of seeking is a hub, if you will, a jumping off spot for seek to work it's way into the whole of my day. To be open to re creating myself and looking for new success.

one little word 2014 ~ jamie pate
And I do not mean monetary success, although that would be a rather wonderful benefit, but the success of who I am all suppose to be. To become. To seek the hidden that I can hide so well so as to become all I am to be.

one little word 2014 ~ jamie pate
I cannot underestimate the power of a single word to guide one through their year. I like to break up other aspects of my life with other single words or phrases, but a primary word is very important to help drive those other areas. While I have chosen a word for the past 5 or 6 years now, I have not always purposed to be active with it daily or even monthly. I am thankful that Ali Edwards provides this One Little Word online workshop, to help facilitate one's spiritual endeavors with a creative spill over. This month's prompts are not very creative, but they are thought provoking. I am keeping my book for now fairly basic, as I want those thoughts to take center stage for me when I re read my answers to the prompts.

I invite you, if you have not already, to come join a community of one little words and seek to find that which is leading you this new year.

jamie pate ~ one little word 2014
created in rhonna designs app

My one little word for 2014 is already at it again. One of the questions asked about the 'one little word' is "did you choose it or did it choose you?". It is safe to say that this word chose me this year. It started off early December. Lots of thinking and introspection even in the midst of a busy time of year. In the middle of all that thinking, this sweet word quietly walks in and simply stands there, smiling. What could I do but embrace it?

ali edwards one little word 2014

So embrace I did. Embraced even to the point of wanting to take Ali Edwards One Little Word 2014 class. This class really encourages one to face their word. Investigate it. Consider it on a deeper level. Be artistic with it. The class is a great way to hold me accountable. And I really want that right now.

ali edwards one little word 2014
So here is to a new year...
a new word...
and new adventure.

I can't encourage you enough, if there is a word, or a phrase, something that is capturing where you are and where you want to go...write it down. Place it visually somewhere. The power of the written word is amazing. And it can change lives.

Till next time...

one little word ~ 2013

1.01.2013

BRAVE...
eek! that's my word.
that's my one little word for 2013...
i have had this word tucked away for a bit now.
and it continues to grow in my mind and speak into where I am now...
and where I need to go.

(the 'brave' graphic was created using several new fonts coming to RhonnaDesigns soon)

I have many areas to grow in and it will require one to be brave.
adventurous.
confident.
courageous.
daring.
gutsy.
plucky. (do you not love that word?)
resolute.
strong.
venturous.

i love all those words.
even though many of them scare me a bit.
but what is a challenge if not met with some trepidation that one needs to push past in order to succeed?
well...not much of one.
AE Promo : Left Sidebar
ali edwards

i have claimed one little word for several years now thanks to the inspiration of ali edward's. and so many i know do the same now. while i am not one for resolutions in the traditional sense, having a word in my sight allows me to grow and be shaped by how that word changes me throughout a year.  last year's word, gift, did that. it was such a versatile word, but most of all it taught me to be observant of the many gifts around me all the time every day. even on the ugly days. (and yes, i too have ugly days.)

brave will help to shape many ideas, thoughts, and goals i have been putting off for a while. and it's such a bold word for me. it is more than just a reminder word like words past. it is a get up and do word. a word that holds me accountable. a word that can't be ignored.

so here is to a new year.
one i am strangely optimistic about.
thankful for all that 2012 brought into my life and taught me...
eager to dive into what is next.

so what is your one little word?

one little word ~ august blog hop

8.01.2012

I did not make the hop list this month.
Which is o.k.
This time of year is a very busy one for me.

That said, I wanted to share some thoughts on my olw.
gifts.
sigh...
think I have fallen off the gifts wagon.
while i still continue to daily write the gifts in my life down...
fearing i myself have not been much of a gift.
i shall not regale you with that here...

but rather share what is in my view right now.

this month's prompt from the BigPictureClass by Ali Edwards was to create a personal playlist for your word.
hmmm....
just am not engaging with that right now.

for one...
as much as i LOVE music, I am not listening to much right now.
when i do have a chance, i catch up on a daily podcast that I subscribe to.
and what i listen to...has little to do with my word.
and i want to remain authentic as i work through my word: gifts.

so...
what DOES speak to me write now...
WORDS.
words always speak to me.

and i am so thankful for pinterest where i can collect those words.

as a matter of fact...
i have two word boards over there...
WORD ART which is a collection of, not only quotes that i adore, but the fact that they are done in a creative way...

jmpgirl ~ rhonna designs

here is one of my many favorites from Rhonna Farrar.

and then there is another board simply called WORDS...

this is a new all time favorite...
you can find it here.

sometimes the lines are smudgey between the two boards...it could really be one board...

but you get the idea.

so, to sum things up...
these quotes are not necessarily about my word gifts...
but i AM indeed always thankful for the gift that the sun is...
and wouldn't i indeed be a gift to other's if i could only live out the 'be's' of that last piece.

something to think about.

now go....
spend some time looking at words on pinterest.

welcome to one little word.
the june blog hop.

{eta:: this blog goes live 9 PST}
project from the art of observation class. quote from margie romney-aslett

This month's prompt involved going deeper with our word with the intent of developing a list of ideas or a mission related to our word.

Thanks to this book, I do just that already.

This book has prompted me to list the gifts in my life daily.
This book was the prompt for my one little word this year:: gifts.
This book is the prompt for this months creativity with the class one little word.
This book has enabled me to live my word daily.
Daily I list my gifts.
Sometimes out of a heart of abundance.
Sometimes out of a cluttered heart fraught with the failings of the day.
But always daily...
writing down gifts.
Putting my heart on paper.
"Forcing" myself, if you will, to count those things daily that have been afforded to me by way of gifts in my life.
It is taking effect.
It is changing my life.
It is changing my outlook.
And I continue to look forward

Nihao, Cupcake! Blog

welcome to one little word.
the may olw blog hop.

one little word

one little word

this past month the prompt was to write a letter to ourselves.
this is one of my favorite prompts.
this is when i was able to read last year's letter to myself.
i almost cried.
as you know last year my word was pray.
and so of course i had some very personal prayers in that letter to me of last year.
and the reality that i had journeyed to a place in which several of them had come true.
it still gives a chill even now to recall the thought.

one little word

we have to look at life in the big picture.
micro managing our moments just might defeat us for good.
to come full circle in 365 days with some serious stuff written in a letter...
sigh...it gives way to much gratitude and thanksgiving.

The following is the rest of the list...please visit Lisa and continue to discover the journey of these women and their one little word.

april ~ one little word blog hop

4.01.2012

Welcome to the April One Little Word blog hop.
(eta: I fell off the hop some how...if you would like to visit the official list, visit Margie our hostess.)

The prompt this month was take action with our word.
This was an easy, if you will, month for me, as my word requires action everyday.
From the beginning of the year, I have been writing down my gifts in my life daily.
The inspiration started when I read 1000 Gifts over the fall.

The book is a dare to live fully right where one is in their life.
The book is a dare to write gifts down daily.
The book is a dare to write down 1000 gifts.

My goal this past month was to get to 360 gifts...
I attained my goal and even surpassed it.

The second part of the prompt was to summarize how the month was accomplished by way of these actions. I love this approach to goal setting and reviewing.
Name.
Identify an action.
Write it down.
Follow through.
An excellent approach to any thing in life one is striving for.

The artistic approach of the month's prompt was simply to take the journaling prompt download and add to my olw album.
I cut the download in half, and used the Follow Your Heart papers from My Mind's Eye.
The first side includes a tag with the month March. (Not finding the font right now.)
And a chipboard piece with the word lovely that sums up this process for me.

The second side I let the paper speak for itself. Rhonna's designs and word art show up often in this album...and my word is moving me to a place of new found freedom and discovery, not too different from that sweet birds song.
I added little flags and banners and sewed them in place, to frame the documenting of my experience for March.

Thank you for visiting.
now go. create.

i think my word is changing me.
my word gift.
i do not say this lightly.
i have had pretty good words in the past.
pray.
joy.

but this word has already surprised me.
i am surprised that other people around me are teaching me this word.
i am surprised how aware i have been toward my word.
i am surprised to see it do a work in my heart.
i am surprised by gifts.

this word was inspired by this book.
one thousand gifts has been a life changing book for me.

i am maintaining awareness in the every day.
or at least self correcting when needed.

my mantra.
posted in several places.
read often.

appreciating the everyday gifts.
joying in them.
writing them down.
photographing them.
staying faithful to my word.

please continue the hop by visiting coley and finding out how her word is teaching her.

this blog hop began the first of january, and you can see here where i ended my album for 2011.

this blog hop will showcase everyone's first prompt of the year.

this blog hop is a great way to keep this community connected and encourage one another with our one little word.

this blog hop helps to keep me engaged to my own personal word by way of ali edwards prompts and journaling cues included in her One Little Word 2012 class.

this year's word is gifts.
love already how it is keeping my eyes open.
how it causes me to pause.

love how ali's prompts cause us to dig a little deeper into our word.
to get to know our word.
to get to understand.
to apply it in the everyday.

love the artistic prompts.
how i get to utilize creative therapy while i think on my word.
