one little word ~ 2013

1.01.2013

BRAVE...
eek! that's my word.
that's my one little word for 2013...
i have had this word tucked away for a bit now.
and it continues to grow in my mind and speak into where I am now...
and where I need to go.

(the 'brave' graphic was created using several new fonts coming to RhonnaDesigns soon)

I have many areas to grow in and it will require one to be brave.
adventurous.
confident.
courageous.
daring.
gutsy.
plucky. (do you not love that word?)
resolute.
strong.
venturous.

i love all those words.
even though many of them scare me a bit.
but what is a challenge if not met with some trepidation that one needs to push past in order to succeed?
well...not much of one.

i have claimed one little word for several years now thanks to the inspiration of ali edward's. and so many i know do the same now. while i am not one for resolutions in the traditional sense, having a word in my sight allows me to grow and be shaped by how that word changes me throughout a year.  last year's word, gift, did that. it was such a versatile word, but most of all it taught me to be observant of the many gifts around me all the time every day. even on the ugly days. (and yes, i too have ugly days.)

brave will help to shape many ideas, thoughts, and goals i have been putting off for a while. and it's such a bold word for me. it is more than just a reminder word like words past. it is a get up and do word. a word that holds me accountable. a word that can't be ignored.

so here is to a new year.
one i am strangely optimistic about.
thankful for all that 2012 brought into my life and taught me...
eager to dive into what is next.

so what is your one little word?

digital art journaling

7.11.2012

jmpgirl ~ digital art journaling
all digital elements RhonnaDesigns

Try as I may, I really struggle with doing a physical art journal.
I am fairly handy with mixed media art...I really enjoy that aspect.
But the drawing and painting and lettering...well...it does not come to me naturally.
I really have to work at it.
Perhaps I need a class? Any suggestions?

Now digital art journaling?
Well that is a different story.
That I really enjoy.
The depth of detail that can be created with digi art really speaks to me.

As you may already know, I adore word art.
I love for a piece to not only speak to me artistically...
but then for a message to be apart of that piece makes it all the more meaningful to me.
Very often it is a spiritual exercise.
A message that needs to be in my eyes, in my heart, throughout the day.
That is usually where the inspiration starts.

As with this piece, I am experiencing a certain fear in my life right now.
Daily I am encountering that fear.
Daily I need to be reminded what to do with that fear.
Looking forward to the next message.

I need to challenge myself to a larger canvas.
Right now the 4x4 or 5x7 is what I am comfortable with.
But I need to stretch myself and go beyond that.

Is there an aspect of creativity that you are really comfortable with?
Do you feel the need to stretch in another area?

Would love to hear.

lucky home decor

3.13.2012

creating with more RhonnaDESIGNS.
getting the most out of the Lucky kits.
had a comment recently from Audrey saying how she has no st patty's day decor...
i reply with "me too!"
until i used these kits for some simple, easy and doable decorating.

this little word art was EASY!
because Rhonna already had it designed in her Lucky Brush kit.
all i had to do was download it.
'stamp' it on a piece of digi ledger paper.
and add it to a frame that i 're-used' from this valentines piece. (scroll down to view)
did i say easy?
(RhonnaDESIGNS;How Do You Do That > Digital Brushes)

these small canvases are a mix of the lucky brush kit, the spring circus tatoos, the number tag kit, and the ever so useful mini textures brush kit. (seriously...that is a must have tool kit...use it all.the.time.)
i stuck them in one of my vintage floral frogs, and they sit below the burlap word art frame. love.

oh...and i still adore this everytime i walk by it...

the subway art was posted yesterday.
had a question from barbara asking what the canvas was? how did i mount it?
the background is an 8x10 piece of foam core.
i adhered vintage book paper vertically to that piece.
the subway art piece measures 5x7 and it too is mounted to a piece of foam core.
that piece of foam core is than attached to the 8x10 piece.
it simply sits in a table top easel.
use what you have::
chipboard
cardboard
cereal boxes
recycled frames

and have fun while you create.

because i am lovin' playin' with digi stuff lately....lovin'. it.
because it's almost st patty's day and since that will be three days before my birthday (did i let that slip? again?) it's a wonderful way to celebrate and enjoy and have fun, and maybe even learn a little truth about the man st. patrick.

if you have any questions about how to put together your own subway art, let me know...maybe there is a tutorial in the future!
